Mick Waters, Professor of Education, has championed Global Learning for many years:
‘Global Learning is needed now more than ever. Young people today grapple with issues of identity, the implications of Black Lives Matter, the repercussions of enslavement, ‘Me Too’, ‘Everyone’s Invited’ and ongoing images of strife and climate change the world over.

Global Learning enables pupils to reflect critically on the world and their place in it; to open their eyes, hearts and minds to the reality of the world at local and global level, and empowers pupils to understand, imagine, hope and act to bring about a better world.’
Mick has been a head teacher, worked at a senior level in Birmingham and Manchester and at a national level as Director of Curriculum. Over the years he has worked in countries across the globe with both national governments and schools to develop revised policy and practice for leadership, governance and classroom teaching. He has written and contributed to many books including ‘About Our Schools: Improving on Previous Best’ (with Tim Brighouse), ‘A Curious Curriculum’ (with Claire Banks) and ‘On the Subject of Values… and the Value of Subjects’ (with Bridget Knight).
Our 40th year anniversary appeal is aiming to provide 40 schools with Global Learning training in 24/25. A donation of £14, £40, £400 (or more!) will go towards offering the following training, at no cost to schools:
  • £500 per school for travel costs incurred as part of the Schools Linking Programme
  • £2,200 for a Philosophy for Children Level 1 whole-school training course (championing critical, creative, collaborative and caring thinking)
  • £3,500 to support a school for an academic year to achieve Climate Friendly School status.
